How multiple printers works
If you’re on an Envoy Visitors Enterprise plan, you can use multiple printers at any location. You’ll manage all printers and iPads directly from your Visitors > Devices page.
Once you’ve paired multiple printers, you can designate which iPads print to which printers.
Important Note: Multiple printers can be set up using only one connection type. For example, you can have all bluetooth printers or all wifi/ethernet printers but not a combination of both.
Benefits of using multiple printers
More flexibility in your location configuration. Assign a printer to every iPad kiosk if desired!
Easier device management. Specify which iPad kiosks print to each printer.
Increased visibility into printer status. Know when printers go offline, check if they are out of badges, and more.
Monitor all printers at all locations from your Global overview > Devices > Printers page.
General best practices
Badge labels are required to be inserted into the printer. The printer will show errors if it is empty or incorrectly loaded.
Check for Interference: Other wireless devices, including Wi-Fi routers, can cause interference with your printer. Having connection issues? Consider turning off potential sources of interference to test if this improves the connection.
Ensure that all iPads are well charged before pairing the printers.
MDM policy should push the latest iOS update for your iPads. Software updates often include fixes for bugs that may affect Bluetooth performance.
Distance: If possible, increase the distance between the iPad and any printers you do not want it to connect to, or turn those printers off if they are not in use.
How to pair multiple printers - Wifi/Ethernet
First time device set up
If you’re getting set up for the first time, we recommend pairing your printers first and then pairing your iPads. Here’s how:
Pair your first printer.
Select your printer model.
Name your printer.
Give it a descriptive name to tell it apart from the other printers.
We also recommend physically labeling the printer with its name using a permanent marker or label maker.
Choose how you’d like to connect your printer and follow the setup instructions.
Click Save, and you’ll see your printer details listed.
To add your additional printers, click New printer.
Then, pair your iPads
Go to Visitors > Devices > iPads.
If you haven’t already, download the Envoy Visitors app on your iPad.
Find the device code and enter it as directed.
From the dropdown, select which printer this iPad should print to.
Click Pair this iPad, and you’ll see your iPad details listed.
To pair additional iPads, click New iPad and follow steps 2-5 above. You can select any printer for any iPad.
Then, specify which printer each iPad should use
Go to Visitors > Devices > iPads.
You can add more iPads at this time (by clicking New iPad), or you can specify where your existing iPads should print.
Each iPad will have a Printer field with a dropdown.
If there is no printer selected, click the dropdown and select one from the available list.
If there is a printer selected and you’d like to change it, click the dropdown and select a different printer from the available list.
Tip: You can change which printers are assigned to which iPads at any time. That's why it's handy to label the iPads and printers with their designated device names!
How to pair multiple printers - Bluetooth
First time set up
First, you must Pair your iPad to the printer in the settings of your iPad (via Settings > Bluetooth > Devices) AND pair it in the Envoy dashboard (via Visitors > Devices > iPads) before connecting another printer using Bluetooth.
Select your printer model.
Name your printer.
Give it a descriptive name so you can tell it apart from the other printers.
We also recommend physically labeling the printer with its name using a permanent marker or label maker.
Choose Bluetooth.
The printer will connect automatically. Go to the iPad
Click Save, and you’ll see your printer details listed.
Setting up the next Bluetooth printer
You will pair the next printer with the iPad via the settings app on the iPad.
Once the printer is connected successfully, open the Envoy application and tap "I already have an account".
Go to Visitors > Devices > iPads and add the iPad.
The printer should come over automatically after a few seconds.
Note: You must do this one at a time for each iPad. You cannot pair the iPad before connecting to the printer via the settings application on the iPad.
Important notes
If you remove a printer from your devices list, the iPads it was previously assigned to will no longer have a printer. You’ll need to manually choose a new printer for each of those iPads.
The iPad name is not editable from your devices page. Learn how to set up your iPad name here.
You can edit a printer’s name or IP address at any time.
