Custom admin roles for Advanced Approvals

Learn how to delegate access to Advanced Approvals by creating a custom admin role.

Overview

Approval policies in Envoy give your team control over who is allowed on site before a visit happens. As a system default, only Global Admins and Location Admins can be assigned as approvers when a policy is created.

With the Advanced Approvals permissions on custom admin roles, you can now grant just the approval permissions a person requires. This unlocks more targeted delegation: give approval rights to the people closest to the visit without granting them broader admin access to your Envoy account.

Creating a custom admin role

See main article: Custom admin roles

  1. The Roles page can be accessed from under one of your locations or the Global overview.

    1. Go to Manage > Roles from the left-hand side menu of the Envoy dashboard.

    2. You will be brought to our roles matrix page, which lists your admin roles and permissions. Click New role at the upper right-hand corner.

  2. The new admin role window will appear. Select what type of role you want to create:

    1. Company roles have company-level permissions.

    2. Location roles have location-level permissions. This level will not have access to the Manage Policies permission, since policies are global.

    3. Click Next to proceed.

  3. You'll be prompted to choose a role that is based on our existing default admin roles, or you can start off with a blank role that has no permissions assigned.

  4. Select Next after you make your selection.

  5. Under Role Info, give your custom admin role a name and provide a description.

  6. The Permissions section will display a complete list of permissions separated by category. Adjust the role's permissions by checking or unchecking the checkbox icon next to each permission.

    1. The Advanced Approvals permissions are located just under the standard visitors Approval section.

  7. Select Create in the top-right corner to save your changes and create your custom role. You will now see your new role under the admin roles and permissions matrix, labeled 'custom'.

After creating your custom admin role, be sure to assign admins to it! Learn more about How to assign admin roles.
