Overview
The Envoy MCP connects your Envoy account to AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT. Once it's connected, you can ask questions about your visitors, reservations, deliveries, and settings in plain language and get answers pulled straight from your Envoy data.
Note: The Envoy MCP is currently in beta. Available tools will change and expand over time. If you have a specific request, please let us know!
What is an MCP?
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It's an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to other apps and services. On its own, an AI assistant only knows what it was trained on and what you paste into the chat. It can't see your Envoy data.
An MCP server fixes that by giving the AI a set of tools: specific, defined actions it's allowed to take in another system, like "list today's visitors" or "look up this location's settings."
When you ask a question, the AI decides which tools it needs, calls them, reads the results, then gives you answers.
A useful way to think about these systems: MCP is a universal adapter. Any AI assistant that supports MCP can plug into any service that offers an MCP server, just like any USB-C device works with any USB-C port.
Why MCPs are useful
You ask questions the way you'd ask a coworker. For example, if you want to pull analytics without opening up the Envoy dashboard, "How many contractors signed in at our Austin office last month?" is a complete request.
You can follow up. If the first answer raises another question, ask it. The AI keeps the conversation context, so you can narrow down, compare, or dig in without starting over.
You can combine data in one place. If your AI assistant is connected to other tools too (like your calendar, Slack, or Google Drive), it can pull Envoy data alongside them. For example, you could ask it to check tomorrow's visitor list against your calendar and draft a heads-up message to your front desk.
It works in the tool you already use. You don't need to learn a new app. If your team already uses an AI assistant, the Envoy MCP adds your workplace data to it.
What the Envoy MCP can do
The Envoy MCP can access the following areas of your account. What you can see and do is limited by your Envoy role and your plan (see Permissions and access below).
Visitors
Look up visitor entries (sign-ins and sign-outs) by location, date range, or visitor type
View upcoming and past invites
Create visitor invites
Review your sign-in flows and visitor settings
Get visitor analytics over a timeframe, like totals by visitor type
Try asking:
"Who's expected to visit our Chicago office tomorrow?"
"How many interview candidates signed in across all locations in August?"
"Invite Jordan Lee to our Denver office this Friday at 10 AM as a vendor."
Desks, rooms, and parking
Look up desk and parking reservations
Create desk reservations (admins can book on behalf of other employees)
View floors, desks, and other bookable resources
Check room calendars and availability
Compare occupancy against capacity
Try asking:
"What was our average desk occupancy on the 3rd floor last week?"
"Book a desk for me at the San Francisco office next Tuesday."
"Which conference rooms are free tomorrow between 2 and 3 PM?"
"Show me all parking reservations at our Krakow office for this week."
Employees and attendance
Look up employee sign-ins/check-ins
Search the employee directory
Review access and badge records from connected access control systems
Confirm whether an employee was on-site during a given period, using your connected presence methods
Try asking:
"Which days was Priya in the office between March 1 and March 10?"
"Which teams came into the office most often this quarter?"
Deliveries
Look up deliveries and their pickup status
Try asking:
"Are there any packages at the front desk that haven't been picked up in more than 3 days?"
Settings and configuration
Review settings for your locations, including sign-in flows, security settings, invites, and email templates
Try asking:
"Compare the visitor sign-in settings between our London and Austin offices and tell me what's different."
"Review our visitor settings and flag anything that could be a gap for our security compliance requirements."
This is especially useful if your AI tool is connected to your internal knowledge base, so it can check your Envoy settings directly against your documented site requirements.
Ideas for exploration
The examples above are single questions. The Envoy MCP is especially effective for multi-step requests that would normally take an export, a spreadsheet, and some time.
For workplace admins
Weekly office snapshot. "Give me a summary of last week at our Austin office: visitor count by type, average desk occupancy, and any deliveries still waiting for pickup."
Space planning. "Which floors are consistently under 30% occupancy on Mondays and Fridays? Show me the last 8 weeks."
For security and compliance teams
Settings audit. "Review the visitor settings for all of our locations. Which ones don't require an NDA or ID scan for contractors?"
Attendance verification. "Pull every access and sign-in record for this employee between June 1 and June 15."
Audit prep. "Draft a summary of how our visitor management settings support physical access control requirements."
For front desk and office managers
Morning prep. "List today's expected visitors at our Chicago office, grouped by host, with arrival times." This can be done as a scheduled task, delivering a daily digest without even opening your computer!
Package cleanup. "List every delivery that's been waiting more than a week, and who it belongs to."
For employees
Plan your office day. "Book my usual desk for Tuesday and Thursday next week."
Invite a guest. "Invite my client Sam Patel to the New York office on Monday at 1 PM."
Tips for better results
Be specific about location and dates. "Last week at the Austin office" gets a better answer than "recently."
Say what format you want. Ask for a table, a bulleted summary, or a draft email, and the AI will format its answer accordingly.
Check the source when it matters. AI assistants can misread or misinterpret data. For anything you'll act on or share, spot-check the numbers in the Envoy dashboard.
Review before confirming changes. When you ask the AI to create something, like an invite or a reservation, read what it's about to do before you approve it.
Permissions and access
Your role carries over. The MCP uses the same role and permissions you have in the Envoy dashboard. If you can't see or change something in the dashboard, you can't see or change it through the MCP either. For example, only admins can book desks for other employees.
You sign in with your Envoy account. Connecting the MCP uses a standard Envoy sign-in (OAuth). The AI assistant only gets access to what your account can access.
Actions are recorded as you. Anything created through the MCP, like an invite or a reservation, shows up in Envoy as created by the connected user.
Use any MCP-compatible AI assistant. The Envoy MCP works with AI assistants that support custom MCP connectors, including Claude and ChatGPT. Envoy is also listed in the Claude Directory.

FAQ
Does Envoy see what I type into my AI assistant?
No. Your conversation happens in your AI assistant. Envoy only receives the specific requests the assistant makes to the Envoy MCP tools, like "list visitors at this location for this date range."
Can the AI change my settings?
No. Settings tools are read-only. The MCP can review your configuration, but you still need to make setting changes in the Envoy dashboard.
Is this the same as Envoy's AI features, like ID verification or document parsing?
No. Those features run inside Envoy. The Envoy MCP connects Envoy to an AI assistant that you choose and manage. For more on AI features in Envoy, see AI Usage in Envoy Products.
I have an idea for something the MCP should do. Who do I tell?
Contact Envoy Support or your account representative. Feedback on real workflows directly shapes which tools get added next!
