Custom Dashboards: Getting Started

Custom Dashboards allow for advanced reporting within the Envoy platform.

Updated over a week ago

Custom dashboards are a powerful way to analyze workplace data but may require help from a data analyst, especially for more advanced setups. Envoy Support can assist with general questions but will not be able to build or customize dashboards for admins.

Overview

Envoy's Custom Dashboards empower you to create tailored, data-driven views of your Envoy activity. Whether tracking visitor volume, monitoring space utilization, or measuring trends over time, dashboards give you the insights to make smarter, faster decisions. By utilizing flexible filtering and robust visualization options, you can create dashboards that align with your team’s specific goals and workflows—all in one place.

Building a location-level dashboard

A location-level dashboard will be visible to all other location and global admins when viewing the customizable dashboard page within Envoy. This makes it easy to share and build upon your data. After creating a dashboard, it can be copied and modified for further customization, allowing for quick iterations.

To create a new dashboard:

  1. To create a new dashboard, click Add Dashboard.

  2. Give the dashboard a name, then decide if you want to base it on an existing dashboard or create a Blank Location Dashboard. If you have already created custom dashboard(s), you will see them listed as options alongside the Envoy-provided dashboards.

  3. Give the dashboard a description, which can help other Envoy admins understand your custom dashboard.

  4. Click Create.

  5. Your new dashboard will be added to the Custom dashboards page. To edit, click on the ellipses, then Edit.

Building a Global-level dashboard

Available to global admins

A global-level dashboard will only be visible to other global admins when viewing the Global customizable dashboard page within Envoy.

To create a new dashboard:

  1. To create a new dashboard, click Add Dashboard.

Editing a custom dashboard

Custom Dashboards are meant to be flexible—think of them as a "playground" for your data. With all your Envoy data at your fingertips, you’re free to explore, experiment, and build the views that matter most to your team. There’s no one “right” way to use this feature, so feel free to get creative and tailor dashboards to answer the questions that matter to you.

To edit a dashboard:

  1. Click on the ellipses next to the dashboard you wish to edit, then click Edit.

  2. This opens the dashboard builder. From here, you can click on individual elements to modify the data shown.

Page Overview

The page overview lists all current elements included on the custom dashboard. Clicking on an element listed will highlight the element on the page and open the element properties options on the left-hand side. You can make changes to the element here.

Element controls

When you hover your cursor over an element, the control bar is shown in the upper left-hand corner. The control bar will have different options depending on the element type.

Potential actions are:

  • Click and drag to move

  • Filter

  • Create a child visualization

  • Maximize element

    • Sort

    • Export: Copy to clipboard, CSV, Excel, JSON, Underlying Data (CSV or Excel), PDF (Portrait or landscape), Send (Export)

    • Refresh data

    • Duplicate

    • Copy/Paste: Copy element, Paste element, Copy format, Paste format

    • Move to: New page, New modal

Element properties

This tab shows the details of your selected element. Some simple elements, like text, don't have an element properties tab. For charts, tables, and pivot tables, this tab is where you build out the data shown.

Element format

This tab is where you can change the visual styling of the element. This includes, but is not limited to: Padding, Colors, Border, Corner, Title, Description, Text size, Trend shape, Tooltips, Text style, and Alignment.

Envoy has pre-built color templates and styles, but you can always change these to match your own company's branding.

Saving your dashboard

After making changes, make sure to save your changes. There is no draft mode within Customizable dashboards, so any other admin with the correct permissions will be able to see your dashboards. If your dashboard is a work in progress, you can add a note to the description stating so.

To save, scroll down to the bottom of the dashboard editor. Click Publish.
