Access Log

A log of badge events received by Envoy from an Access Control System for Auto Check-in

Access Log

The Access log provides visibility into Envoy's auto check-in feature. It displays the actual badge events, wi-fi connections, SSO authentications, and MDM signals Envoy receives, in addition to automatic geo-location check-ins. Envoy displays events received at that location, including the employee name, time of badge event (or wifi signal, etc), and integration name. Admins can filter the log to streamline access control integration setup and troubleshooting.

How the Access Log Works

The Access log outputs the raw events received from our presence integrations for matching employees. Once a presence integration is configured for auto check-in, events begin populating this log. Envoy uses these events to create auto-sign-in entries in the Employee log.

Note: These are the events being sent to Envoy by the ACS, WiFi, SSO, or MDM. They do not represent the number of sign-ins that should appear in the Employee log. Envoy automatically filters and interprets this data to populate the Employee log. For example, multiple entries in the Access log for the same employee simply reflect the number of events sent to Envoy as the employee uses their badge—more precisely, exactly what the ACS is sending to Envoy regarding badge usage.

The event are grouped by the attached employee. By default, the Event time will determine the ordering. The employee with the most recent event recieved will be listed first.

You can expand the events recieved to view details by clicking on the dropdown.

Filtering the log

The logs can currently be filtered by date, outcome, integration, or specific employees.

Access Warnings

To enable:

  1. Select and toggle on any alerts you want to receive.

    1. You can send alerts based on individual users and/or Roles.

ACS Connection Failure Alerts

Not available for Brivo and Kisi

Envoy proactively communicates with Access control systems (ACS) to retrieve employee badge data. With connection failure alerts enabled, all global admins and location admins will receive email notifications when Envoy does not receive a response from your ACS after 30 minutes. This is a more timely response than data inactivity alerts, which will not notify an admin until after a 10-hour lapse.

Example email:

Data Inactivity Alerts

To ensure badge events are being sent to Envoy via your access control integration, Envoy will display a warning in the Access Log and send a notification email if no badge events are received within 10 business hours. The notification email will be sent to all Global Admins and the Location Admins of the affected location.

Please navigate to the App settings to enable Data Inactivity Warnings.

Business hours are set to 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and the time zone will be based on the address entered in Location Settings.

Resolution Alerts

Envoy will send a notification email after a failure alert is resolved and stabilized for 20 minutes. (I.e. badge events coming in after 10 business hours of no events coming in.)

How to troubleshoot with the Access Log

Admins can now verify if badge swipes are being received from the integrated presence integrations.

  • No badge swipes?

  • No SSO signals?

    • Ensure that your network IP matches the IP set in the intgration configuration.

  • Search for specific employees:

    • If no events are found for a specific employee, double-check that the employee is registered in the Access Control System.

  • Employee is in the Access Log but not being auto checked-in?

    • Make sure that the employee's email in the ACS/SSO/WiFi system matches the Envoy employee directory.

  • See more specific sign-in details:

    • You can now view the event time and the door used during the sign-in.

      • Missing a door? Make sure the door was selected during the ACS integration setup under App Store > Installed Apps.
