Assigning roles & permissions to admins

Screens supports role-based access so you can decide who in your organization can manage devices, content, playlists, and schedules, at which locations.

Screens permissions are scoped along two dimensions:

  • By location

    • A user can be granted access to one location, several, or all

  • By resource type

    • Within a location, you grant view, create, edit, or delete permissions across devices and content

Resource-specific permissions (e.g., "this user can only see device X" or "this admin can only edit playlist Y") are currently not supported. Permissions apply to the entire resource type within a location.

Creating a custom Screens role

For customers who can create roles:

  1. Navigate to Manage > Roles in the Envoy dashboard

  2. Click New role

  3. Choose whether the role applies to all locations or a subset

  4. Give the role a name (e.g., "Content manager")

  5. Under Screens, set the permission level for each of the categories

  6. Save the role, then assign it to the relevant people
