Descartes MK Denial

Automatically screen your visitors against denied parties in MK Denial

Updated yesterday

Overview

With the Envoy + MK Denial integration, Envoy will alert your team if visitors match to restricted parties in MK Denial. When a visitor is invited, or signs in with Envoy, MK Denial will automatically check if their information appears on any lists of restricted parties you’ve selected in MK Denial.

You can opt to screen all visitors or only certain visitor types, and configure which information is included in checks to get broader or more precise matches.

PREREQUISITES

  1. You will need administrative access on your MK Denial account to complete this setup. Ensure you have administrative access or work with a local administrator before proceeding with the following steps.

  2. A plan from Descartes MK Denial is required.

How visitors experience screening

Visitors will have no way of knowing they are being screened or that they’ve matched a restricted party in MK Denial. If you would like to proactively inform visitors that they will be screened and collect their consent, you can use Envoy’s data privacy features or the communication channel of your choice.

Tip: You can add a disclaimer in your visitor invite emails

If a visitor triggers a match when attempting entry at the kiosk, they'll see a screen indicating that someone is reviewing their responses.

If an invite triggers a match, the invitation email will not be sent until an administrator has reviewed and approved it.

What happens when there’s a match

When a visitor returns a match in MK Denial, Envoy notifies the administrators you’ve designated to receive alerts. These people will receive alerts through the preferred notification channels set in their profile.

The visitor record will not be approved, and will have a Visitor failed screening note.

You can view match details by clicking the Review button in the sidebar to load the screening modal.

Once reviewed, you can Approve or Deny the visit as needed. The Approval history of the entry will update to reflect the admin who approved/denied the visitor.

Setting up MK Denial

Step 1: Authorization

  1. In your Envoy dashboard, navigate to Integrations, then search for "MK Denial." Locate the integration, then click Install.

  2. Click Authorize to grant MK Denial the required permissions.

  3. Enter your MK Denial Username and Password.

    1. Optional: Enter a Custom or Private API URL if yours differs from https://uatapi.mkdenial.com/.

  4. Click Next Step to login.

Step 2: Visitors

  1. On the Visitor step, choose the Visitor types (flows) to screen against. All flows available at your current location will populate in the dropdown.

  2. Decide which Address field format you wish to use. If you aren't currently collecting this information, the field will be automatically added to applicable sign-in fields.

    1. Collecting this information helps provide a more accurate screening process.

  3. (Optional) Check the Company screen option to screen the "Company" field that visitors provide. This will only work if you are collecting a "Company" field.

  4. Click Complete Setup to finish and save.

FAQ

How Screening Logic and False Positives Are Handled

Envoy integrates with MK Denial (by Descartes) to screen individuals and companies against applicable watchlists. During this process, Envoy securely passes the following information to MK Denial for evaluation:

  • Full name

  • Company name (if enabled)

  • Address details

How Screening Logic Works

MK Denial fully controls the screening logic used to evaluate potential matches. This logic is based on the configuration set within your MK Denial account and may include combinations such as:

  • Name and address matching

  • Company and address matching

  • Other rule combinations defined in MK Denial

Envoy does not modify or influence how these searches are executed. Envoy’s role is limited to transmitting the relevant data to MK Denial and displaying the resulting screening outcome.

Managing False Positives

If you encounter false positives or believe the screening logic should be adjusted, these changes must be made directly within MK Denial.

Because the matching rules and thresholds are configured and enforced by Descartes, Envoy is unable to adjust screening logic or override match criteria on your behalf.

For assistance with:

  • Reducing false positives

  • Updating matching rules or thresholds

  • Understanding how specific matches are evaluated
