Overview
Confidential Mode is a security feature designed to prevent the accidental exposure of sensitive internal information on Screens devices by hiding confidential content when visitors are on-site.
Confidential mode builds on your existing visitor flows and “presence data,” so admins can be confident that visitors won’t see any internal-only content on your displays. This creates a unified ecosystem where real-time presence data dictates digital visibility, automating compliance, streamlining workflows, and significantly reducing security liabilities without manual oversight.
By synchronizing these data streams, the platform transforms static screens into context-aware assets. This ensures that sensitive information is automatically hidden the moment a guest arrives, effectively turning your office infrastructure into a proactive layer of your security strategy.
To use this feature, a Visitors subscription is required.
Enabling Screens Confidential Mode
Screens Confidential Mode has two parts to enable.
First, you need to assign the Screens devices with different confidentiality settings. Since your screens are physically located in different places, you can have custom confidentiality settings per device.
After designating confidential devices, you can tag content as confidential within a playlist. This determines which content will be hidden when confidential mode is triggered.
Step 1: Enable Confidential mode on the Screens device
On your Envoy dashboard, navigate to Screens on your left navigation panel.
Once you've paired a Screens device, click on the device you want to enable Confidential Mode on.
This will open the device’s details panel on the right-hand side, where you’ll select the device’s Confidential Mode trigger from the following:
Never: Default
Any visitor checks in: When any visitor enters the workplace, the Screens device will trigger Confidential Mode
Specific visitors: Opens a dropdown for the admin to select visitor types to trigger Confidential Mode
Step 2: Tag Confidential Content
After enabling a device for Confidential Mode, it is essential to tag Confidential content when creating the playlist used on that device.
Navigate to Screens > Playlists, then either click + Create playlist or select an existing playlist.
Select content from your existing content library, or click + New to upload.
At the top of the selected content, you’ll see an Always visible option with an eye icon. By default, content is set to Always visible.
Click to display a dropdown with the following options on how the content should interact with Confidential Mode:
Always show
Show in Confidential Mode: this content is displayed only when in Confidential Mode. This is useful for setting a "screensaver" alternative to display when visitors are present.
Hide in Confidential Mode: this content is skipped over, or the device remains blank, should there only be confidential content tied to that playlist
Click Sync playlist to apply these settings to any paired devices.
Note: Admins must identify and tag confidential content in any playlists assigned to that device for Confidential Mode to detect it.
